While consumers were stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of their tech-related habits changed significantly, according to research from The Pew Research Center and Oracle.
Online Ordering Booms
The top tech-assist behavior changes include:
Online delivery (51%)
Contactless or cashless payments (46%)
Virtual doctor appointments (40%)
According to Pew, online ordering skews younger.
53% of 18- to 29-year-old Americans have ordered food online or in an app compared to 22% of 50- to 64-year-old respondents. It’s also more common for those college educated (38%) than those with a high school education or less (25%). Just 21% of American consumers have ordered groceries online or through apps.
Consumers' mindset
While many people are eager to return to a more normal lifestyle, some of the changes seen during the pandemic are expected to stay.
40% of consumers plan to maintain these changed habits.
31% did not miss business travel.
54% worry their unused loyalty points will expire.
72% look forward to traveling out of state again.
