Twin Cities' population growth hits seven-year high in 2024

Resurgence in urban growth, net migration support gains, while suburban growth remains robust

The Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area saw its strongest population growth since 2017, adding over 35,000 people last year, according to the most recent population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. That exceeds the Twin Cities' average annual growth of roughly 31,000 residents in the 2010s. At the same time, the 1% growth rate roughly matched the U.S. average, ranking 33rd among the 55 metropolitan areas nationally with a population of over 1 million people.
