Rockbridge acquires hotel, brands from Sage Hospitality
Sage Hospitality sold its 154-key Halcyon hotel in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood to Rockbridge, along with its Halcyon and B&GC brands, for an undisclosed price. A local investor group, BMC Investments, will retain a minority interest in the hotel, and Makeready will manage the hotel, restaurants and bars.
"I've been impressed with Halcyon for some time, and when the opportunity arose to acquire it, we moved quickly," said Jim Merkel, CEO of Rockbridge, in a news release. "We believe in Halcyon, and its strength as an independent brand. We look forward to re-capitalizing and enhancing the property.”
Sage opened Halcyon in 2016.
Beer-themed hotel boom continues
Beer is taking a starring role at a growing number of hotels. There’s BrewDog’s DogHouse Hotel and Brewery near Columbus, Ohio, and now Indiana’s Zorn Brew Works is getting in on the action. The Michigan City, Indiana, brewery’s owner, John Van Prooyen, opened The Brewery Lodge in Michigan City. The lodge includes a 12-room boutique hotel, an events venue, a restaurant and a “brew bus” that shuttles visitors to craft breweries in the region.
According to an article in The Northwest Indiana Times, the lodge is in a nearly 100-year-old building that the owner renovated. In its prior lives, the building was a doctor’s country retreat, a school dormitory and a corporate retreat venue. Now, the lodge can host special events for up to 150 people indoors and outdoors.
Palm Springs resort set for renovation, rebranding
Nearly one year ago Oxygen Hospitality purchased the Ivy Palm Resort in downtown Palm Springs, California, and the company recently unveiled plans for a two-phase renovation for the historic property. Phase one of the renovation, beginning in June, will cover renovations of all 100 guestrooms, the outdoor pools, outdoor public spaces and more. Phase two, scheduled to complete in 2020, will add a new restaurant concept and additional rooms. The hotel will stay open during renovations.
"The Ivy Palm Resort is a jewel property in the beautiful desert of Palm Springs,” said Yaron Ashkenazi, CEO of Oxygen Hospitality, in a news release. “Our new vision for this hotel – inside and outside – embraces the city’s rich local history of its people, architecture and design. Once repositioning is completed, the hotel will have a new name, a new look, instill the warmth of American hospitality and celebrate local influences for a first-class guest experience.”
