Cardiff industrial vacancies hit 10-year high, but sales volumes soar

Major closures drive vacancies upwards although strong inward investment improves outlook

The shutdown of two major industrial facilities in the Cardiff market has propelled vacancy rates to 7%, the highest level since 2014. The rise was driven by the closure of Bridgend's 1.8 million-square-foot Ford engine plant and Wilko’s 900,000-square-foot distribution centre in Newport. Vacancies in Bridgend have now risen to more than 19%, one of the highest in the UK.
