Employees at global real estate advisor CBRE have picked leading UK dementia charity Alzheimer’s Society as its charity partner and are aiming to raise more than half a million pounds for the organisation.

Across the two-year partnership, CBRE and its staff will take part in various fundraising initiatives, including its flagship Great Property Bike Ride event, to collect £600,000 and provide support for people living with dementia.

In the UK, around 900,000 people live with the disease and the number is expected to rise to 1.6 million people by 2040. It is also the leading cause of death in the country, overtaking heart disease.

The funds raised by CBRE will support the charity’s Citizens Advice Benefits Service, its Diversity and Inclusion fund, helping underserved communities access dementia support, increasing financial support, accessible information and companion calls. CBRE said the services help to reduce the feeling of isolation experienced by those with dementia and provide protection against financial hardship.

Ciaran Bird, divisional president and chief executive of CBRE in the UK and Ireland, said in a statement: "Building on our history of successful charity partnerships, we’re committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of individuals affected by dementia and we hope to make a real difference through a whole host of fundraising initiatives to support such a deserving charity."
