Although nonfarm employment levels in San Diego fell by 1,200 in December, according to the latest jobs report from California’s Employment Development Department, the overall unemployment rate fell to a pandemic low of 4.2%. That compares to California’s rate of 5% and comes up short of the 3.7% unemployment rate for the United States. Even so, job growth in San Diego, at 4.9% during 2021, outpaced the U.S. average at 4.6%.
