Canadian small-business owners have an overwhelmingly negative one-year outlook

Pessimism is growing across sectors, especially among hospitality firms

According to the March 2025 Business Barometer index published by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, or CFIB, fewer small businesses surveyed held an optimistic outlook than at any other time in recent history. Just 25% of those surveyed were optimistic about business conditions in one year’s time. The sharp decline in sentiment dovetails with the U.S.-Canada trade dispute.
