An Austin-based real estate investment management firm has hired a new executive to oversee its accounting, finance and risk management departments, as well as its multifamily management team.

Palladius Capital Management, which specializes in hospitality, multifamily and student housing investments, announced this week that it hired Afshin Kateb to be its chief financial officer and head of hospitality investments.

Kateb, who is also part of Palladius Capital’s investment committee, will be based out of the firm’s Los Angeles office. He has 25 years of experience in real estate investing and financing. He most recently served as the founding CFO of Nimes Real Estate.

Kateb, in his 25-year career, either led or co-led more than $2 billion in hotel, mixed-use, multifamily, office and retail transactions.

“Afshin joins Palladius at a pivotal time as we prepare to accelerate our rapid growth through the introduction of new products and investment strategies," Palladius Capital CEO Nitin Chexal said in a released statement. "We see significant opportunity to capitalize on the dislocation in the market and have assembled a best-in-class team to ensure we are able to execute with precision.”

Kateb was also the CFO at SBE, where he helped oversee that firm’s expansion into hospitality markets in Las Vegas, Miami and New York City. He was also the senior vice president and fund portfolio manager at Lowe Enterprises Investors, founding CFO and executive member of The KOR Group, senior management consultant at Ernst & Young and corporate controller at Maruko Inc.

Kateb sits on the boards of Woodbury University, Cal Poly Pomona Collins School of Hospitality Management and Mogul Recruiter.

Palladius Capital targets investments in hospitality, multifamily and student housing. The firm manages and operates about $600 million of real estate nationwide.

Palladius Capital Management's headquarters is at 515 Congress Ave., Ste. 1000, Austin.
