As of the third quarter of 2015, Marriott had 4,308 hotels open worldwide (excluding timeshare and branded residential units), and Starwood had 1,253.
 
While both companies each contribute four brands to the luxury segment, it’s the upper-upscale and upscale segments that have the largest volume and combined weight. While neither company has commented on where each brand stands, analysts say the future of some might hang in the balance
 
Marriott’s Courtyard is the largest brand in the combined portfolio by number of hotels worldwide, with 1,020 properties, followed by Fairfield Inn & Suites (753 hotels), Residence Inn (689 hotels), Marriott Hotels (598 hotels) and Sheraton (441 hotels).
