Manchester City, the world’s biggest soccer club by revenue, plans to build a 400-room hotel at its Etihad Stadium in Manchester, located on Ashton New Road to the east of the city center.

The English Premier League club has submitted plans to Manchester City Council to construct a hotel as part of a more than 300 million pounds sterling ($373 million) project that will also add 6,500 more stadium seats for a total capacity of 60,000. Manchester City is owned by Emirati businessman Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahya, who on April 2 was also named vice president of the United Arab Emirates.

According to a news release from the club, the development will result in a “best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination.”

If the renovation plans are approved, the project will take three years.

According to a reporting by Deloitte, Manchester City posted full-year 2022 revenue of 619.1 million pounds sterling, which was a 13.1% year-over-year increase over the year before.

Premiership soccer stars receive very good compensation, with the report adding that of that revenue, 57% is paid out in salaries to the club's players, a figure that is 2% lower than that of 2019.

The team currently sits second in the top flight of English soccer, the Premiership, four points behind London’s Arsenal.
