Start-ups are a key demand driver in Cambridge but how vulnerable are they to the coronavirus outbreak?

The recent coronavirus pandemic has already negatively affected many businesses, which have started to take measures such as furloughing staff to avoid collapsing. Start-ups are among the most vulnerable businesses during this crisis as they are less liquid and highly depended on funding. Many start-up founders are already seeing financing rounds pulled or vastly reduced. Although the UK government launched the above mentioned relief measures, many start-ups in the country won’t be able to access such funding. However, according to the UK government, start-ups that are developing tools to improve resilience for critical industries such as healthcare, food production and distribution are eligible for grants of up to £50,000.
