Global commercial real estate firm Avison Young has appointed David Martin as interim regional managing director for Birmingham, taking over from Carl Potter, who has led the Birmingham office since 2018.

Avison Young’s Birmingham office serves the wider West Midlands and East Midlands regions, working across multiple regional projects, such as Paradise Birmingham, Arden Cross and the regeneration of both Derby City Centre and the Ladywood district of Birmingham.

The firm said that Martin will play a crucial part in driving revenue growth at a regional level, "applying his deep understanding of the Midlands market" and leveraging partnerships with key clients and stakeholders.

He will also help to support national campaigns at a local level, showcasing the Birmingham office’s flagship projects and key service areas, and support key regional clients at major industry events, such as Mipim and UKREiiF.

Prior to taking up the role, Potter spent 18 years as a principal in Avison Young’s building and project consultancy division, leading a multidisciplinary team of building surveyors, quantity surveyors, project managers and services consultants, and working across a range of projects for both public and private sector clients.

His career also includes a 12-year stint as a partner with King Sturge, with Avison Young adding that he has experience of advising high-profile clients on major acquisitions, ensuring that assets meet commercial needs and delivering schemes providing considerable value to clients, occupiers, and communities.

Stephen Cowperthwaite, managing director of UK regions at Avison Young UK, said in a statement: "Regional investment is a crucial part of our wider UK growth strategy, shaping Avison Young into an advisory business that helps to create economic, social, and environmental impact and value, and David will play an important role in supporting that vision."
