The addition of a Lowes Foods supermarket to Platt Springs Crossing, which is under construction in Lexington, South Carolina, is expected to help attract more interest in the mixed-use development, earning the store a CoStar Impact Award for lease of the year, as judged by real estate professionals familiar with the market.

The Platt Springs Crossing development broke ground last summer. The area has become a retail hub in recent decades, and the number of households nearby has steadily increased.

Lowes Foods marks the first significant lease signed in the development. The company was founded in 1954, and it employs nearly 9,000 people with 81 full-service supermarkets in the Carolinas.

About the Project: The Platt Springs Crossing project will include multiple retail establishments, townhouses and a gym. The roughly 50-acre development is positioned near the intersection of Platt Springs Road and South Lake Drive in Lexington County, South Carolina. NAI Columbia’s Ben Kelly and Patrick Chambers are the developers.

What the Judges Said: "The Lowes Foods lease should be a catalyst for the growth of the Platt Springs Crossing Development, sparking additional retail and multifamily developments in the area," said Robb McCarter, director of research at NAI Columbia.

They Made It Happen: Patrick Chambers, principal and executive committee member at NAI Columbia, and Benjamin Kelly III, a shareholder with NAI Columbia, took part in this deal.
