Exxon Mobil, the largest U.S. energy company, is closing large research facilities in New Jersey and Canada in a corporate consolidation and $15 billion cost-cutting drive at a time when outdated U.S. suburban office campuses are targeted for such new uses as last-mile distribution centers or housing.
