A former Party City executive has joined ExcessSpace, a Newmark unit that helps retailers get rid of excess space and restructure leases.
Jason Gendel, who was most recently vice president of enterprise real estate for party-supplies chain Party City, has joined ExcessSpace, a business Newmark bought in 2015, as executive managing director and head of new business, Newmark said Friday in a statement. Gendel will lead growth and expansion opportunities for ExcessSpace, which Newmark said is a leading specialist in real estate disposition, lease restructuring, lease renewals and site selection for retailers in the United States and Canada. Gendel will work closely with Michael Wiener, president of ExcessSpace, Newmark said.
Gendel has over 16 years of industry experience and has directed and completed over 4,000 transactions, Newmark said. He oversaw more than 850 locations nationwide and managed over 10 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space annually while at Party City, according to Newmark.
“Jason is a transformative hire for ExcessSpace, amplifying our team with a wealth of portfolio optimization experience,” Wiener said in the statement, adding he’s worked with Gendel in the industry for many years.
ExcessSpace has worked with over 200 national and regional retailer clients, including some of the major U.S. supermarkets, drug stores, department stores, home furnishings companies, banks and restaurants, Newmark said.
