Re/Mex Canada, the country's largest network of real estate agents, hired a former executive from a competitor as its news president.
Re/Max said it tapped Don Kottick, who previously served as president and CEO of Sotheby's International Realty Canada, to fill the top spot.
Kottick has more than 30 years of experience in the Canadian real estate industry and worked in corporate and franchise development, brokerage management and technology and related services. Kottick, who's based in Toronto, started this week, Re/Max said.
Re/Max said Kottick will oversee Re/Max Canada's operations and provide direction, strategy and support to affiliates throughout the country while also working closely with the leaders of the independent Re/Max Quebec region to amplify the brand nationwide.
"His experience, strategic vision and proven success in growing major real estate brands will be invaluable," said Erik Carlson, CEO of Re/Max Holdings, in a statement.
Kottick replaced Christopher Alexander, who Re/Max said in February would step down from his role as president of Re/Max Canada and consult it through June 30.
Re/Max Canada refers to Re/Max of Western Canada, Re/Max of Ontario-Atlantic Canada and Re/Max Promotions, each of which are Re/Max LLC affiliates. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Re/Max LLC is a subsidiary of Re/Max Holdings, a company has more than 145,000 agents in nearly 9,000 offices. It has a presence in more than 110 countries and territories.
In Canada, the brand has over 25,000 agents in over 970 independently owned and operated offices across 10 provinces and territories.
Kottick said he was drawn to Re/Max because of its leadership.
"Erik's vision and strong commitment to pushing boundaries and evolving to meet the changing demands of the market is something I deeply believe in and wanted to be a part of," Kottick said in a statement.
