National retailer Academy Sports & Outdoors leased a newly developed 63,224-square-foot property in the flourishing Shoppes at St. Lucie West, a shopping center on 200,000 square feet that has maintained 95% occupancy or more for the past several years.

The outlet serves a need in the community as the closest similar sporting goods store is 50 miles away in Palm Bay, earning it the distinction of commercial development of the year for Port St. Lucie in CoStar's 2024 Impact Awards, as judged by real estate professionals familiar with the market.

Academy Sports & Outdoors joins other retailers in the shopping plaza, including Publix, LA Fitness, Burlington and HomeGoods.

Katz & Associates and Redfearn Capital represented the landlord, and Strategic Retail Advisors represented the tenant.

About the Project: National retailer Academy Sports & Outdoors opened its first location in the Treasure Coast region of South Florida with the development and leasing of a 63,224-square-foot property in the Shoppes at St. Lucie West in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

What the Judges Said: "The addition of Academy Sports & Outdoors at the Shoppes at St. Lucie West provides another national brand to Port St. Lucie. The residents are constantly seeking quality dining, shopping and entertainment experiences so they don't have to travel to South Florida," said Elijah Wooten, economic development administrator, City of Port St. Lucie. Aaron Michael, senior economic development project manager, Florida Power & Light Co., said the development provided jobs and a new place to buy goods that enabled people to enjoy all St. Lucie had to offer.
