WeWork co-founder Adam Neumann is going green, as a land trust representing the billionaire has gotten the OK from local officials to upgrade the landscape around his recently acquired South Florida residence.
The local architectural review board in the Miami area last week approved a set of plans that include adding 250 trees and over 1,600 shrubs beltween the two adjacent lots acquired by Neumann in 2021 for $43 million, the Wall Street Journal reported at the time. Since then, the 12,353-square-foot mansion under construction at one of the sites has been completed while the adjacent plot remains open space.
Neumann, who launched WeWork in 2010 with Miguel McKelvey, stepped down as CEO in September 2019 after a failed attempt at an initial public offering.
The arboreal improvements at Neumann's property would include Japanese blueberry trees, Christmas palm trees, Green Island ficus, cat palms, clusia plants and a nautical-themed fence along the sea wall to present "a unified property,” according to application materials.
Local officials approved the upgrades without objection.
