General Motors (GM) has signed a 15-year lease to occupy the top floors of the under-construction Hudson's Detroit building, scheduled to be completed in 2025. The new lease will bring GM back to where it all started for the automotive company on Woodward Avenue. While it's been more than 100 years since it was headquartered there, this will be its fourth headquarters location within the city since 1911. GM has stated that it is committed to the city of Detroit and aims to be part of its revitalization, while also being one of the driving forces that helps it once again become the auto industry capital of the world. Once completed, the 1.5-million-square-foot, multiple-building, Hudson Detroit Center will offer office space, ground-floor retail, a luxury hotel and residential opportunities, in addition to a 12-story office tower that provides views of the city from every floor. The floors to be occupied by GM are still fluid in the leasing process as Newmark and Bedrock continue to work on securing more tenants for the remaining office and retail spaces within the two buildings. GM will continue to occupy space at the Renaissance Center, which it owns, until Hudson's Detroit is completed. There are also plans in development between Bedrock, GM, the city of Detroit and Wayne County to come up with a plan to redevelop the Renaissance Center to help attract new tenants to the property or repurpose the building. For the Record:Daniel Canvasser, Ben Shapiro, Marcella Lahara, Terry Coyne and William Rolander with Newmark are working with Jessica Doll at Bedrock Management Services as primary leasing agents for office space at Hudson Detroit Business Park. |
