Marriott International President Stephanie Linnartz will step down from her position at Marriott in February 2023 to serve as president and CEO of Under Armour.
Linnartz will officially leave her role as president to lead the athletic apparel company on Feb. 24, 2023, according to a news release. She has served as president since early 2021 following the death of then-President and CEO Arne Sorenson.
"It has been one of the most significant and best experiences of my life to build a career at Marriott," Linnartz said in the release. "I will always be grateful for the opportunities I had to play a role in the company's growth and industry leadership. I am thankful for the support and friendship of Mr. Marriott, Arne Sorenson, David Marriott and Tony Capuano through the years.”
Marriott CEO Tony Capuano said in the release he’s both excited for Linnartz’s new career and saddened to see her leave.
“Beyond the collaborative relationship that Stephanie and I enjoy in our roles, we are good friends, having rooted for each other for more than two decades as we grew in our careers at Marriott and in our lives outside the company,” he said. “I admire so much about Stephanie — she has this great combination of grit, grace, and humanity — qualities that make her an exceptional leader. To say she will be missed is an understatement — but she will always be part of our Marriott family."
Linnartz started at Marriott in 1997, taking on roles in finance, business development, revenue management and sales and marketing. During Marriott’s acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, among other duties, she oversaw the integration of several corporate functions and business-critical systems. In 2019, she led the combination of Marriott and Starwood’s loyalty programs to create Marriott Bonvoy, which now has more than 173 million global members.
Outside of Marriott, she sits on the board of directors at The Home Depot. She’s also a member of the board of trustees at the College of the Holy Cross, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She also earned her master’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary.
