NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins helped his real estate company raise more than $260,000 as part of an effort to provide free rent for a year to 25 families across the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Wilkins, an investor and partner in Atlanta-based Roots who played most of his career with the Atlanta Hawks, co-chaired the charity event with his wife, Jedidia, in the past month at Monday Night Garage. The event included a silent auction and a golf tournament the following day.

The goal to fund rent for a year for 25 families is $500,000, the company said. Applications will open later this year, though an exact date has not yet been set.
