Blackstone's EQ Taps Netflix Executive as Head of People
EQ Office, a Blackstone company that owns office properties across the country, has hired Tyler Benjamin as senior vice president and head of people and culture. He joined EQ from Netflix, where he spent five years in human resources. In his new position at EQ, Benjamin will oversee the strategy and organization of EQ’s human resources function, including talent development, the company said. He also will play a significant role in shaping and sustaining EQ's culture of the organization, according to the company. Benjamin, based in EQ’s office in Santa Monica, California, will report to Chief Operating Officer Josh Hatfield.
Benjamin has more than 25 years of experience in human resources and talent development. During his time at Netflix, he most recently served as vice president and the HR business partner for its studio operations and production. In that role, Benjamin led the review process across the enterprise and played a significant role as the company's culture evolved with Netflix expanding, EQ said. Previously, he held HR leadership roles at SoulCycle, NBCUniversal and Discovery Communications in New York and London. “At EQ, our people and culture are critical to our success and ability to create and operate inspiring workplaces for our customers throughout our portfolio,” CEO Alex Vouvalides said in a statement.
Newmark Hires CBRE Apartment Broker

Newmark has hired multifamily investment sales broker Dean Zander, who spent the past seven years at CBRE as a vice chairman in Newmark's Century Center office in west Los Angeles. During his more than three decades in the business, Zander has closed on transactions valued at a combined $11.9 billion, that contained a total of 58,000 units across Southern California. In his new role at Newmark, Zander will work with Mitch Clarfield, Kevin Shannon, Chris Benton and Anthony Muhlstein, the brokerage said. Zander's book of business includes institutional and large private capital clients such as Nuveen, Blackstone, Western National Group, Prudential Real Estate, Equity Residential, AvalonBay Communities, Essex Property Trust and The Bascom Group. "Newmark's multifamily business is experiencing significant growth," and adding Zander enhances its ability to expand further and "meet evolving market demands,” said Chad Lavender, president of capital markets for North America, in a statement. In addition to working at CBRE, Zander held senior brokerage roles at Berkadia and Sperry Van Ness.
Foundry Lands Office Tenant Rep for North Carolina Team
Foundry Commercial has hired broker Taylor Clayton, who relocated to North Carolina from Texas for his new job. Clayton joined Foundry's office tenant representation team in the company’s Charlotte office. He spent the past three years as a tenant rep at Partners Real Estate in Houston. He initially wasn't considering a move from Texas to North Carolina, but after meeting Foundry managing director and principal Brian Brtalik and senior associate Mike Dempsey, Clayton decided to relocate for the new job, the brokerage said. Clayton's success in Houston during a challenging office market will position him to do well in Charlotte, where deals for office spaces are getting done, Brtalik said. “In Charlotte, demand continues to drive lots of transactions and opportunities in the market," he said in a statement.
Avison Young Adds Property Management Principal
Avison Young has expanded its Southeast management leadership team with the addition of Karin Carter as principal and director of property management for the brokerage's Atlanta and South Carolina markets. Carter joined the firm from CBRE, where she served as property management operations director for the Southeast region. In her new role at Avison Young, Carter will be responsible for directing the real estate management services platform, optimizing property management teams’ performance and leveraging Avison Young’s technology and methods in operations, sustainability and tenant services, the firm said. Carter has more than 20 years of experience in the industry, where she has worked in the office, industrial, data center and retail sectors. Her experience, especially in the Atlanta market, will help Avison Young's growing property management business, said Randel Waites, principal and managing director of U.S. real estate management services, in a statement.
Broker Returns to CBRE in Southern California

Broker Jerome Fried, who most recently worked at coworking company Industrious, has returned to CBRE, where he worked from 2011 to 2017. In his new role at CBRE, Fried will serve as a first vice president in its west Los Angeles office and specialize in representing occupiers of space across the country, the brokerage said. He will work closely with fellow broker Matthew Mallers.
Fried started his career at CBRE in downtown Los Angeles, where he advised early-stage technology and media firms in Southern California. He then went to work at Savills, where he specialized in advising national occupiers in the financial services and Los Angeles-based media and entertainment companies, before joining Industrious in March 2021. At Industrious, he oversaw its European expansion.
