With the Northern Hemisphere entering the summer months, travelers around the world are preparing to head out on trips.
The annual Summer Travel Index from Tripadvisor found 51% of respondents plan to travel as much as they did last summer, while 44% expect to travel even more, according to a news release.
Of those traveling, 26% of Americans plan to spend $5,000 or more on their trips. Ninety-two percent of Americans traveling expect to spend at least the same amount they did last year, and more than half expect to spend more. Among those spending more, 44% plan on taking more trips than in 2023, 55% expect to travel for longer and 44% will travel more than seven hours to reach their destination.
Americans planning this travel are generally optimistic about their upcoming trips, according to the index. Roughly 4 out of 5 survey participants responded they were comfortable traveling over the summer, with 67% reporting feeling excitement, 65% feeling happiness and 37% feeling optimism.
For Americans traveling abroad this summer, the top three international destinations are Cancun, Mexico; London; and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Domestically, the top three destinations are Las Vegas, Nevada; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Orlando, Florida.
