The Roswell Park Scott Bieler Amherst Center development, completed in 2023, created a new Western New York hub for high-quality, comprehensive cancer care. The $23 million project was designed to provide a welcoming, single-point-of-contact facility for patients to receive chemotherapy infusions, imaging, lab work, pharmacy services and cutting-edge medical treatments available through clinical trials.

At the project's ribbon-cutting ceremony, Scott Bieler, the president and CEO of the West Herr Automotive Group and a major donor to the facility after whom it's named, noted the major impact the new complex is expected to have on patients and the community at large.

"The building's purpose is to bring a solution to a diagnosis. It was built to hopefully extend life to all who enter," said Bieler in remarks at the facility's grand opening in September.

In recognition of its expected impact and importance in making advanced cancer treatment available to the region, the project was selected as the 2024 CoStar Impact Award for commercial development of the year by an independent panel of local industry professionals.

The completion of this new center was a milestone for Roswell Park, as it is the first new building outside of their downtown Buffalo campus. This project fulfilled Roswell’s goal to enhance outpatient services and deliver high-tech cancer care to a wider patient base in Western New York. The Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center was founded in 1898 by Dr. Roswell Park. Roswell Park is the only upstate New York facility to hold the National Cancer Institute designation of "comprehensive cancer center" and to serve as a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

About the Project: The nearly 30,000-square-foot facility on Park Club Lane features two floors of state-of-the-art equipment and clinical space with a calming color scheme and interior design. The new medical services hub will offer appointments and consultations with experts in breast medicine, dermatology, genitourinary medicine, gynecology, lymphoma, thoracic medicine, thoracic surgery and cancer survivorship. In addition, patients will have onsite access to a full-service pharmacy, comprehensive infusion center, phlebotomy and laboratory testing as well as an array of imaging services.

These services will also be available to patients of the adjoining Roswell Park Care Network practices in the same plaza — Roswell Park Hematology Oncology Northtowns and Breast Care of Western New York, providing a complete system of care for cancer patients in the region.

What the Judges Said: “This project brings much-needed medical care to a wide variety of the population that needs it closer to their residences," noted one of the local judges. “Impressive and much-needed medical facility in the suburbs," added another.

They Made It Happen: Scott Bieler, president and CEO of the West Herr Automotive Group, along with Ed McGinn CCIM, Sarah Cudmore and Erik Wagner of Newmark Ciminelli, the developer and owner of the building, and architect LaBella Associates.
