Related Group made its name in its hometown, Miami, by redefining the word "luxury" with each new project. The gold-trimmed bar in the grand salon at the Baccarat condominium tower in downtown Miami, for instance, will be two-stories tall, putting the metaphorical and literal "top shelf" on an entirely different level.

Because of this emphasis on opulence founder Jorge M. Perez has been called the "Condo King of Miami" and the "Donald Trump of the Tropics," and Related Group's first Phoenix development is in keeping with his reputation. The company's sumptuous sensibilities are very much in evidence at Town Deer Valley, a new apartment complex at 24100 N. 19th Ave., about 19 miles north of downtown Phoenix.

"This project is innovative and sets new milestones for the market in terms of design, wellness, sustainability, energy efficiency, amenities, technology and other elements," the development team wrote in its award application.

The project's photogenic appeal and unstinting amenities caught the attention of the panel of local real estate experts tapped to be the judges for the 2023 CoStar's Impact Awards, who chose Town Deer Valley as the best multifamily development for the Phoenix region.

Town Deer Valley was designed to be a Mediterranean-style "resort paradise," according to its website. The complex is spread over an 18-acre site, with an "outdoor living room" and two swimming pools, adorned with a nine-foot rain curtain. The interiors are palatial as well. A resident club house is centered around a two-story fireplace and includes billiards, an arts and crafts room and a full bar and kitchen, among many other things.

The project had plenty of competition for "best multifamily development." Over 2022, more than 100 new apartment properties were constructed in the Phoenix region, according to CoStar data, adding a whopping 16,551 units to the market. Town Deer Valley stood out because it does not just fulfill a need — housing — but strives for beauty as well, said Ryan Sarbinoff, vice president and regional manager of Marcus & Milichap's Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque, New Mexico operations.

Related Group announced its entry into the Phoenix market in late 2020, when it unveiled plans for The Manor Scottsdale. That development is still under construction, which makes Town Deer Valley its official debut.
