Rental housing veteran Ronda Puryear has begun her yearlong term as chair of the National Apartment Association as the multifamily industry cools after several straight years of strong performance.
A nonprofit organization in Arlington, Virginia, the association is focused on advocacy, accountability and collaboration within the rental housing industry. The organization has 141 state, local and global affiliates with more than 95,000 members who represent over 11 million apartments, according to its website. The board is the organization's primary governing body.
Puryear takes over as housing and rental demand eases after two years of turbulence exacerbated by pandemic-era policies such as eviction moratoriums and rent control. There is still high demand for rental housing, particularly affordable units, which largely remain in low supply across the country.
“Following a few particularly challenging years, our industry has the opportunity to build a stronger future,” Puryear said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with so many apartment professionals from across the country to make meaningful progress for the rental housing industry.”
Puryear has more than 30 years in the industry with experience in property management, marketing and development. She serves as president of residential management for Management Services Corp., where she oversees the Charlottesville, Virginia-based company’s multifamily operations.
Succeeding Don Brunner as chair, Puryear has been involved with the association for more than 10 years.
