With the bankruptcy announcement this week by Destination Maternity and its plans to close more than 200 stores, 2019’s record number of announced store closings climbed even higher, now north of 10,200 stores in total for the year. With more than two months left in 2019, the number of announced stores to shut is already more than 4,800 above last year’s total, and over 3,000 more than were announced during the downturn in 2008.
