Quebec cinemas continue long road to recovery

Movie theatre attendance has increased since 2020 but still falls short of pre-pandemic levels

Quebec’s movie theatres continue to recover from the pandemic era. While overall movie attendance in 2023 remained 22% below 2019 levels, it was still more than three times larger than 2020 levels, when much of society was closed. At the same time, the number of movie screenings has also continued to increase, more than doubling between 2020 and 2023.
