Kempinski opens Saudi hotel
On Jan. 28, Kempinski Hotels on opened the Kempinski Hotel & Resort Sariya on the Saudi Arabian island of Al Mahar. It has been under renovation since April 2022.
Two new Hyatts in Kenya
Hyatt Hotels Corp. opened the 219-room Hyatt Regency Nairobi Westlands on Jan. 22, which is owned by local firm JM Developers. Later in the first quarter, Hyatt will open the 168-room Hyatt Place Nairobi Westlands owned by Kanha Ltd.
Historic Bucharest hotel reopens as Corinthia in March
The Corinthia Grand Hotel du Boulevard Bucharest is to open on March 10. The hotel occupies an 1867 Belle Epoque building that in 1873 opened as the Hotel Herdan and in 1877 as the Grand Hotel du Boulevard.
Valor Hospitality Partners developing Holiday Inn in Mauritius
Valor Hospitality Partners will operate the Holiday Inn Mauritius Mon Trésor, its first venture into East Africa. The hotel, owned by Airport Hotel Ltd., has 140 rooms and is adjacent to Mauritius’ main airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
Home2, Hilton Garden Inn coming to Amsterdam
Hilton is to debut its Home2 Suites by Hilton brand in The Netherlands with a 128-room hotel that will occupy a building alongside a 156-room Hilton Garden Inn. The Amsterdam duo will open in 2027.
EasyHotel, CaixaBank agree to loan terms
Budget hotel firm EasyHotel has agreed a £24.5 million loan with bank CaixaBank to capitalize four upcoming hotels in the country. The first will be in Madrid (2025), which will be followed by assets in Barcelona and Valencia (also in 2025) and Alicante (2026).
New NH Collection hotel in Balearic Islands
Minor Hotels is bringing its brand NH Collection to the Balearic Islands with the 38-room NH Collection Ibiza, which is to open in April. It will be in the form Sir Joan Hotel, which, according to CoStar, was acquired by AX Partners in January for approximately £23.3 million or £613,297 per key.
A&O property coming to Heidelberg
A&O Hotels’ owners Proprium Capital Partners and StepStone Group have announced the 118-room (320 beds) A&O Heidelberg, for which construction will start in spring and the hotel will open by the end of 2026. The hotel will be the firm’s 43rd branded property, 26 of them being in Germany. The seller of the property the hotel will occupy is BHB Heidelberg GmbH, a subsidiary of Heureka Real Estate GmbH.
Surya Hotels buys English estate, including former hotel
Surya Hotels has acquired the Theobalds Park Estate in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, England, for £12.5 million ($15.5 million). The property features 55 acres of gardens and grounds, a 140-suite hotel and two restaurants. There has been £8 million ($10 million) of capital expenditure to the estate, which has its origins in the 15th Century. The hotel when it last was in operation was known as the Birch Cheshunt.
IHG, Tristar bringing Holiday Inn to Ratingen, Germany
IHG Hotels & Resorts and owner Tristar GmbH plan to open by the end of the year the 134-room Holiday Inn Ratingen, near Düsseldorf. Of IHG's 220 hotels in Germany in operation or pipeline, more than 120 are in the Holiday Inn family of brands.
Remake Asset Management acquires four Polish B&B Hotels
Via its SCPI Remake Live fund, French owner Remake Asset Management has acquired four B&B Hotels in Poland from French real estate investment trust Covivio in Krakow, Lublin, Łódź and Warsaw for 142.5 million Polish złoty ($35.2 million). The hotels included are the 130-room B&B Hotel Lublin Centrum, the 149-room B&B Hotel Lodz Centrum, the that are operated by B&B Hotels, the 130-room B&B Hotel Kraków Centrum, and the 154-room B&B Hotel Warszawa-Okecie.
The Social Hub opens Florence property
On Feb. 1, hybrid hotel-hostel firm The Social Hub opened on Feb. 1 its €150-million, 550-room The Social Hub Florence Belfiore, which features an Olympic-length pool in the Italian city’s largest rooftop garden. It is the second asset for the brand in the city.
