Texas is experiencing a surge in hotel construction, with more than 16,000 hotel rooms expected to be completed within three years. The Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin metropolitan areas are among the largest U.S. cities with the highest number of hotels being built. Both areas rank among the top 10 metropolitans across the U.S. in terms of rooms under construction.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the second highest, with more than 6,600 rooms to be completed in the next 36 months, following New York City. Austin ranks seventh, behind Atlanta, with 3,900 rooms expected. Houston comes in at 16th, with 1,800 rooms; and San Antonio ranks 50th, with 600 rooms.
Approximately 12,000 of the 16,000 hotel rooms under construction across the state are expected to be completed in 2024, across 123 properties. Here's a look at the four most-anticipated hotel openings for 2024:
Loews Arlington Hotel & Convention Center
Arlington, Texas
Luxury Class
The Loews Arlington Hotel & Convention Center is expected to significantly add to the area's entertainment appeal in the larger Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Boasting 888 rooms, the luxury-class hotel is situated between AT&T Stadium, home of the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys and Globe Life Field, home to the 2023 Baseball World Series Champions Texas Rangers. Construction began in 2021 to fill the area’s demand for luxury hotels and limit visitors' need to commute from other areas in the city to the expanding entertainment and sports district, known as The District. The Loews Arlington will feature several restaurants, two pools and a sky bridge to the attached Arlington Convention Center, as well as to LIVE! By Loews, the existing 300-room hotel that opened in 2019. The new hotel and convention center is expected to open in February 2024.
The HALL Park Hotel, Autograph Collection
Frisco, Texas
Upper Upscale Class
Frisco, Texas has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the development of its sports and entertainment district, The Star. This district is home to the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters and the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, which opened this year next to the PGA of America headquarters adjacent to two championship golf courses.
Frisco's Hall Park is also undergoing a transformation from an office-focused area to a mixed-use community. As part of a larger $7 billion master plan by Dallas-based Hall Group, Coury Hospitality will operate the new Hall Park Hotel, which will be a 224-room Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. The hotel will have an on-site restaurant, a large ballroom and an outdoor pool, and will cater to both leisure and business travelers. The Hall Park Hotel, Autograph Collection is expected to open in the summer of 2024.
Kimpton Hotel San Antonio
San Antonio, Texas

The new hotel will be built in San Antonio's Downtown, across from its historic Hemisphere Park at the intersection of the La Villita and Southtown neighborhoods. The 347-room hotel will be an adaptive reuse of an 1850s schoolhouse, blending both historic and modern elements. At a height of 10 stories, the hotel will feature a rooftop pool and lounge, and more than 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space. White Lodging will own and operate the hotel, with support from HKS Architects and KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group.
