GAF Energy leased a 450,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Austin, Texas, suburb of Georgetown to produce solar roofing products for the North American market. The company will manufacture its Timberline Solar Line, which is a nailable solar shingle.
Portman Industrial is the owner and developer of the building at 110 SE Interloop Road in Georgetown that is still under construction. The deal was awarded a 2023 CoStar Impact Award by an independent panel of industry professionals within the market.
“One of the reasons I was drawn to work at our parent company, Standard Industries, was their commitment to U.S.-based jobs and manufacturing. We’re thrilled to be building the future of solar here in Georgetown,” GAF Energy President Martin DeBono said.
About the project: GAF Energy’s new space in Georgetown will bring U.S.-based clean energy manufacturing jobs to Central Texas. The company built its first manufacturing facility in San Jose, California. That building is already online. This new facility in Georgetown is GAF Energy’s second facility.
What the judges said: “It’s bringing a brand-new industry [solar roof tile manufacturing] to an oft-overlooked part of the market. Georgetown has largely been a suburban bedroom community and bringing jobs to the market will diversify the existing economy,” said Sam Tenenbaum with Cushman & Wakefield.
“Great to see a clean energy manufacturer come to the area. Great product and should be good manufacturing jobs,” said Greg Hallman, the director of real estate at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.
They made it happen: John Colglazer Jr. and Kyle Kennan of Partners Real Estate in San Antonio coordinated the lease. ARCO/Murray is the construction partner.
