Connecticut Construction Company Hires COO

(Updated Aug. 12 to correct the city where A.P. Construction is based.)

A.P. Construction Co., the construction management and general contracting division of the Ashforth Co., has hired a chief operating officer, a new position within the company.

Jason Hart joins the Stamford, Connecticut-based firm with more than 20 years of construction industry experience, having served in managing director, general counsel and project manager roles for various construction management, architectural, engineering and construction law firms.

In his new role, Hart will oversee management of the company's field operations, preconstruction services, estimating, accounting, administration and business development. He also serves as a member of A.P. Construction's executive committee that develops and implements strategic initiatives, according to the firm.

Hart previously served as general counsel for Pavarini McGovern and Ajax Building Co., two operating entities of the STO Building Group. Before that, he worked in project management with Bovis Lend Lease's New York City healthcare group and in construction consultancy at Holt Construction. His career also includes a stop at construction law firm Peckar & Abramson in New York, and he later served as general counsel and managing director with Vidaris.

"Jason’s strong construction operations background combined with his legal expertise, collaborative results-driven approach and high energy will enable him to drive the future success of our company," said Andrew Ashforth, co-CEO of the Ashforth Co. and CEO of A.P. Construction, in a corporate statement announcing the move.

JLL Launches New ESG Business Line

JLL announced a new business line in the firm's Charlotte, North Carolina, office that's dedicated to sustainability and environmental, social and governance, or ESG, under its project and development services division.

The firm has hired John Thigpen as vice president and Meghan Wirtner as project manager to further the group's efforts in creating productive and healthy workspaces for clients and their employees.

In his new role, Thigpen will lead the sustainability team in the Carolinas and is responsible for business development, client management and project delivery with a focus on ESG issues. Previously at JLL, Thigpen served as the energy and sustainability services manager for the brokerage's work dynamics accounts. He most recently worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council as a climate adviser for the city of Charlotte as part of the Bloomberg Philanthropies American Cities Climate Challenge.

Wirtner will work closely with Thigpen. Previously she served as a project architect for Hennebery Eddy Architects, where she handled design and construction project management for various sustainable facilities. Wirtner is a LEED accredited professional and most recently worked at Green Hammer Design-Build as a project architect overseeing a series of net-zero building projects.

CBRE Recruits Two Executives From Cushman

Joseph Cirone and Patrick J. Dugan have joined CBRE as senior vice presidents in the firm's Manhattan office.

In their new role, Cirone and Dugan will focus on landlord and tenant representation across Brooklyn and lower Manhattan as the brokerage firm looks to expand its presence throughout the region.

The duo join CBRE from Cushman & Wakefield, where they most recently served as executive directors, advising a diverse client list with millions of square feet in completed transactions in the office, retail and industrial sectors while serving as leasing agents for over 8 million square feet in the outer boroughs of New York City.

Avenue5 Promotes Multifamily Adviser

Multifamily property management services firm Avenue5 Residential has promoted Stephanie Stacy to senior vice president of its western Washington multifamily operations portfolio.

In her expanded role, Stacy will support a team of operations leadership professionals managing more than 13,000 units in more than 80 properties in various stages of leasing throughout greater Seattle and Tacoma. In addition, she'll continue assisting new and existing clients with market and property opportunities.

Stacy joined Avenue5 in 2015. She holds the certified apartment portfolio supervisor designation from the National Apartment Association and began her multifamily career in 2010.

Industrial Broker Joins Kidder Mathews

Bentley McKean

Bentley McKean joined the West Los Angeles office of Kidder Mathews as a vice president.

In his new role, McKean will specialize in the acquisition and disposition of industrial properties and commercial development sites throughout Southern California and across the country.

McKean began his career at Marcus & Millichap in 2018, where he was awarded the brokerage's rising star and emerging core awards, and most recently served as a senior associate in Oxnard, California. According to Kidder Mathews, McKean became one of the youngest CCIM members to earn the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation at the age of 24.

WASHINGTON, DC

ACEEE Names Senior Policy Director

Mark Kresowik will join the leadership team of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy as senior director for policy, effective Aug. 15.

In his new role, Kresowik will oversee the nonprofit research organization’s policy initiatives in addition to leading programs staffed by 20 members at ACEEE that help reduce energy waste and combat climate change.

Kresowik, a building electrification expert and advocate, most recently led federal and international policy for RMI's carbon-free buildings program. Earlier he spent more than a decade managing clean energy campaigns at the Sierra Club, where he became deputy regional campaign director for the Northeast.

OMAHA

Lund Co. Promotes Property Manager

Cushman & Wakefield/the Lund Co. has promoted Amanda Burchfield to director of residential property management in Omaha, Nebraska.

In her expanded role, Burchfield will oversee a team of regional property managers within the firm's property management portfolio.

Burchfield joined the company in 2015 as a property manager. She was promoted to regional property manager and oversaw a portfolio of 1,700 units. Burchfield brings more than 19 years of experience in property management and has overseen a range of multifamily properties from new construction through lease-up and renovation. She holds the certified apartment manager and certified apartment portfolio supervisor designations from the National Apartment Association.

Ware Malcomb Hires Design Director

Mark Schwamel

International design firm Ware Malcomb has hired Mark Schwamel as director of interior architecture and design in the firm's downtown Chicago office.

In his new role, Schwamel will lead the office and oversee the growth of its interiors studio across the region.

Schwamel brings more than 20 years of experience in workplace, mixed-use, retail, urban design and multifamily projects. He holds a master's of architecture in urban design from Kent State University and currently serves on the American Institute of Architects' national strategic council, representing more than 4,000 members in the state of Illinois, and has served on several of AIA's committees and task forces.
