Developer Silver Wings Real Estate is looking to capitalize on rising industrial logistics demand in northern Bakersfield with the recent completion of the first of several warehouse and office buildings planned at Silver Wings Commerce Center, 1322 Citation Way. The project features relatively smaller buildings rather than mega-warehouses.

Local economic development leaders see the project as a key part of plans to boost the local economy and create jobs, after numerous companies have established new industrial operations in the Bakersfield region in the past few years. They include industrial machine maker Caterpillar and retailers such as Dollar General, Famous Footwear and most recently Ikea. The new Silver Wings Commerce Center has been selected by a panel of local industry professionals as the winner of the 2023 CoStar Impact Awards Commercial Development of the year for Bakersfield.

The 115-acre, master-planned Silver Wings Commerce Center is located near the regional Meadows Field Airport and an existing Amazon distribution center.

About the project: The newly completed industrial building at Silver Wings spans 14,820 square feet, with 22-to-24-feet clearance heights, two ground-level doors and insulated metal panel construction. Tenants have not been announced.

What the judges said: “Silver Wings and the associated buildings represent an exciting start to the development of smaller, modern industrial projects very much needed to keep up with demand around our local airport,” said judge Matthew Starr, principal at brokerage ASU Commercial.

They made it happen: The developer and owner of Silver Wings Commerce Center is Silver Wings Real Estate. Leasing is being handled by Barry Hibbard, Mark Smith, Dylan Lym and Boyd Binninger of brokerage ASU Commercial.
