BBG Expands Presence Across Sun Belt With Acquisition of More Appraisal Firms
BBG, a Dallas-based valuation and assessment services firm, is continuing its expansion across the U.S. Sun Belt with its recent acquisition of appraisal firm David E. Jones & Associates in Austin, Texas.
David E. Jones, who served as CEO of his company, has been named a senior managing director at BBG's Austin office. Former managing partners Abigail Jones and Zoe Zhang have both been named managing directors at BBG.
The firm's other employees have also joined BBG in connection with the acquisition. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Established in 1986, David E. Jones & Associates specialized in a variety of property types including multifamily, assisted living, mixed-use, faith-based, healthcare, hospitality, office, industrial, retail, athletic and self-storage facilities.
Throughout his career, David Jones has appraised and brokered properties across Texas and served as an expert witness in district, bankruptcy and state courts. Abigail Jones brings more than 20 years of experience in operations and business development in the real estate industry, while Zhang has appraised various commercial properties for nearly a decade.
Since the beginning of this year, BBG has acquired four appraisal firms, including its acquisition of DeRango, Best & Associates in Orlando. BBG appointed Daniel R. DeRango and Richard A. Best as managing directors in its Central Florida office.
"Our acquisition of these two exceptional firms will play a critical role in our growth strategy in the Sun Belt region, one of the country’s top fastest-growing areas in terms of expanding population and robust economic activity," BBG CEO Chris Roach said in a statement announcing the moves.
Gordon Bros. Hires Kuntz as President, COO
Norma Kuntz has joined Gordon Brothers as president and chief operating officer. She also joins the global advisory and investment firm's board of directors.
In her new role, Kuntz will partner with senior leadership and the board to guide the firm's rapid expansion and handle its day-to-day operations.
"With the new CPP Investments partnership, the continued support of Stone Point Capital and over $1 billion of capital available, we’re accelerating the pace of growth, and Norma is a key figure in our future success," CEO Ken Frieze said in a corporate statement.
Kuntz brings more than 25 years of experience in the private equity, asset management, alternative investment and financial services industries worldwide, most recently as chief operating officer and chief financial officer of global private equity at the Carlyle Group. Before that, she worked as an executive vice president and chief valuation officer at Allied Capital Corp.
Matarazzo Named CFO at Diversified Properties
Commercial and residential real estate developer and owner Diversified Properties has hired Peter Matarazzo as its chief financial officer in Montville, New Jersey.
In his new role, Matarazzo will work with the firm's executive team to streamline both its operations and finance departments, according to the company.
Matarazzo previously served as chief financial officer and controller at Arete Management, a New York-based developer of low-income and affordable housing and mixed-use properties, where he presided over financial reporting items and related accounting, records, statements, tax filing and investor communications for over 50 entities.
Newmark Promotes Capital Markets Pros Pullen, Maher
Edward "Woody" Maher has been promoted to executive vice chairman and co-head of the Boston capital markets group at Newmark, and Matthew Pullen has been promoted to vice chairman of the group.
In their expanded roles, Maher and Pullen will focus on strategic expansion of office and life science capital markets in East Coast gateway markets, working closely with Robert Griffin and Kevin Shannon, co-heads of U.S. capital markets for Newmark.
Maher has closed more than $75 billion in transactions throughout his 35-year career, and Pullen has closed $45 billion in transactions during his 20-year career.
Gafcon Taps Skaife To Direct Project, Construction Management
Heather Skaife has been named director of Gafcon's project management and construction management business lines.
In her new role, Skaife will lead Gafcon's core services for owners seeking real estate advisory and construction management services, from public-funded infrastructure projects to mixed-use megadevelopments. She will report directly to Gafcon President and Chief Operating Officer Robin Duveen.
Skaife brings more than 17 years of construction industry and executive operations experience, having previously overseen various project teams and all phases of large-scale construction and development programs.
Stumm Joins Bridge Industrial's Growing Acquisitions Team
Bridge Industrial has hired Greg Stumm as director of acquisitions for its West region.
In his new role, Stumm will pursue leads and underwrite acquisitions across California and Washington. He will serve as the West Coast counterpart to Stefan Sansone, who was recently hired to lead its Northeast region, and Cory Welper, who was promoted to lead its Central region. The trio will report to Partner Nick Siegel, who was tapped to oversee Bridge’s national acquisitions team in March.
Stumm previously served as a director with Newmark, where he focused on landlord and tenant representation with its industrial division and was involved in over 250 lease and sales transactions valued in excess of $1.85 billion.
JLL Adds Two Brokers to Retail Advisory Team
Emily Durham and Rachael Keener have joined JLL's Houston retail advisory team as part of its food and beverage advisory practice.
In their new role, the duo will advise and represent restaurant tenants throughout Texas.
Durham joins the firm as a senior vice president and brings more than 30 years of restaurant industry experience including tenant representation from small retail strips to grocery-anchored power centers. Keener will serve as a vice president and handle site selection, market analysis and growth initiatives for franchise concepts, local restaurants and national chains.
Tarkow Joins CBRE as Senior Vice President
CBRE has hired Josh Tarkow as a senior vice president in the firm's Tampa, Florida, office.
In his new role, Tarkow will represent industrial property owners, institutional real estate investment trusts and local occupiers with lease negotiations and relocation strategies throughout the greater Tampa Bay area.
Tarkow brings nearly 20 years of commercial real estate industry experience and has been involved in more than 500 lease and sale transactions totaling over 10 million square feet throughout his career. He most recently served as a managing director with Cushman & Wakefield.
MBRE Promotes Yang to Senior Vice President
MB Real Estate has promoted Joyce Yang to senior vice president.
Currently the company's director of marketing and research, Yang also joins the MBRE executive committee and leads its diversity, equity and inclusion task force.
Yang has been with MBRE since 2016, and before that worked at several real estate brokerages in Chicago, where she marketed large development projects in the residential, commercial, hospitality and retail sectors. Before real estate, she worked in advertising.
