UK GDP growth turned negative in the month before the coronavirus crisis began

The UK economy expanded by 0.1% in the three months to February 2020 but GDP actually fell in a rain-drenched February, according to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics

Rolling three-month UK GDP growth was 0.1% in February 2020, following two periods of flat output, according to estimates released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) today. This moderate uptick was driven by a weak November falling out of the latest statistics. Indeed, the UK economy actually contracted in February, falling by 0.1%, thus showing no momentum even before the coronavirus crisis began in March.
