Holidays Bring More San Diego Workers Into the Fold

Hiring and Layoffs Increased in the Region During the Last Weeks of 2023

Holiday hiring in the retail trade industry, particularly for general merchandise stores, boosted San Diego's November employment gains, according to the latest jobs report released by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.2%, although that was markedly higher than the 3.3% rate in November 2022. California’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 4.9%.
