The city of Atlanta acquired two commercial buildings and a vacant lot to extend the popular 22-mile Beltline walking path that will ultimately circle the central city.

Atlanta Beltline, a city agency, paid $11 million for three parcels in the Buckhead neighborhood. The 2110 Peachtree St. site includes a closed nightclub. The 2101 Tula St. property is a two-story retail building. The vacant lot is at 2100 Peachtree St. Bennett Street Properties was the seller.

The purchased properties are located in an area with dense commercial development and are one of the few parts of the Beltline not located in a former railroad right-of-way.

Separately, the city began construction on the first segment of the Beltline located in Buckhead as it seeks to fill in gaps and create a completed circular route by 2030. The new segment under construction is set to include a suspension bridge over Peachtree Creek.

The city also announced it reached an agreement with AIR Communities' Peachtree Park Apartments in Buckhead to allow the Beltline to pass through the residential complex.

Construction is ongoing for several Beltline segments but about half of the trail has been completed, largely in the eastern and western portions.

The Beltline is funded by a special tax allocation agreement that involves Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County and the city of Atlanta. Private donors have also provided funding.
