Nonfarm Jobs in Southern California's Inland Empire Grew Slightly in May

April Numbers Revised Downward as Previous Losses Greater Than Initially Reported

The national jobs report released earlier this month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shocked many economists and analysts when jobs reportedly grew by 2.5 million, hinting that employment in the Inland Empire might also be growing. That presumption has been confirmed as local nonfarm payrolls grew by 1.3% in May, representing roughly 17,800 jobs, as reported by the California Employment Development Department. However, April’s employment estimates were later revised downward from a 9.6% loss to 12.6% loss, a difference of 45,700 jobs.
