Discount giant Target has unveiled a list of some of the first new stores it's looking to open across the country, all part of a planned expansion totaling more than 300 brick-and-mortar retail locations.
The Minneapolis-based chain, with about 2,000 stores now, posted the locations of 39 upcoming stores on its website. Most are clustered along the East Coast, from Massachusetts to Florida, with a half-dozen slated for the Sunshine State. But the future store locations also stretch coast to coast, with five planned for California. Four stores are set for New York and one in Hawaii.
The future locations range in size from a scant 28,000 square feet in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City to a nearly 150,000-square-foot store in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Target officials said they will be focusing on rolling out larger stores in the next decade. A dozen of the future stores are planned to be 147,000 square feet or larger. Nine are small-format stores, at 50,000 square feet or less, typically placed in urban areas.
Once open, the 300 new stores are expected to generate $15 billion in incremental sales annually.
