London-Based Kew Green Looks To Continue Global Expansion

Latest Milestone Is Expansion into US

BERLIN — The sun never sets on the Kew Green Hotels portfolio.

With hotels from Thailand to Brazil, Kew Green Hotels CEO Chris Dexter said his company has aspirations to grow all around the globe, including establishing a U.S. presence for the third-party management firm.

"No country or destination is too small or too far away," he said while speaking with HNN at the International Hospitality Investment Forum. "The Middle East, Africa, Asia, predominantly Western Europe, Eastern Europe. And we're about to sign in the next two months a property down in Florida, so we'll expand our footprint in North America, as well as South America."

Dexter said that Florida hotel will be in Miami, which is a market he's particularly excited about.

"It attracts everybody," he said. "It's easy to get to. It's on most air routes. It's easy to get to. It's a great destination."

As an operator of hotels in different countries and destinations, Dexter said the labor shortages impacting the hotel industry are being felt unevenly across the globe. But what is universal is the need to build a better pipeline to leadership positions, he said.

"You have to give people a chance; you have to have a succession plan in place," he said. "And you have to give those people that have a certain amount of experience from another industry or within the industry — you have to mentor them and coach them to take those positions."
